Adult Foster Care (AFC) Programs

Our Adult Foster Care (AFC) program is also sponsored by MassHealth. This program allows participants to live in their own home (or an adult foster care home) with a caregiver who provides 24/7 supervision, personal care assistance, and homemaking services. AFC is available to Massachusetts residents aged 16 and older who require help with ADLs, including bathing, grooming, dressing, eating, mobility, and toileting. Through this program, individuals in need of daily living assistance in Taunton, Massachusetts, can receive personalized care in a home setting, ensuring their well-being and independence.

AFC is particularly beneficial for seniors experiencing physical limitations due to aging, medical conditions, or cognitive impairments such as Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

• Caregivers may be adult children, grandchildren, siblings, or close friends and receive a tax-free stipend.
• The live-in caregiver must be at least 18 years old and cannot be the participant’s spouse or legal guardian.
• Up to three program participants can live in one adult foster care home.
• The home must be a private residence.
• The caregiver may move into the participant’s home, or the participant may move into the caregiver’s home.
• AFC participants cannot reside in a rest home, assisted living facility, or group home.
• AFC is an entitlement program; there is no limit on the number of eligible participants.
• This is a long-term service and support program covered under MassHealth.
